36th IGC: The 36th International Geological Congress will be held virtually from March 20-22, 2022. The three-day Congress is expected to witness participation from globally renowned geoscientists.
The theme of the 36th International Geological Congress is "Geosciences: The Basic Science for a Sustainable Future."
The 36th International Geological Congress will be a joint endeavor of the Earth Sciences Ministry, Mines Ministry and Indian National Science Academy and the Science Academies of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
International Geological Congress
The International Geological Congress is described as the Olympics of Geosciences and they are held once every four years. The IGC is held under the aegis of the International Union of Geological Congress (IUGS).
The International Geological Congress sees participation from around 5000 - 7000 delegates from across the world.
International Geological Congress Objective
The International Geological Congress provides a unique platform for knowledge and experience sharing in the field of geosciences and professional networking.
The congress gives first-hand information on the latest technologies in mineral exploration, mining and management of mineral resources, environment and water. The event also creates opportunities for capacity building across several streams of geosciences.
36th International Geological Congress Significance
The 36th IGC theme “Geoscience - the Basic Science for a Sustainable Future” will reflect how geosciences are related to creating a sustainable future.
The talks will aim to highlight the complex interactions of phenomena that regulate the Earth processes and their symbiosis. Geoscience in general plays a crucial role in addressing the issue of sustainability, which is the biggest concern of the world today.
India along with its regional partners had bid to host the 36th International Geological Congress in India in 2020 during the 34th IGC at Brisbane in 2012.
