America’s Michael Phelps won gold in the 200m butterfly event in the World Swimming Championship in Shanghai on 27 July 2011. The victory helped olympic champion, Michael Phelps break his gold medal drought in Shanghai. With the victory he won his third straight world title in his favourite 200m butterfly event.
The world record-holder stormed ahead and fought off challenge by Japan's Takeshi Matsuda, clocking a winning time of 1min 53.34sec.
Matsuda timed 1:54.01 came second while China's Wu Peng claimed bronze in 1:54.67.
China's Sun Yang won the men's 800m freestyle title ahead of Canada's Ryan Cochrane with Gergo Kis of Hungary third.
Brazil's Felipe Franca da Silva won the 50m breaststroke. Italian Fabio Scozzoli stood second and defending champion Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa ranked third in 50m breaststroke category.
