Anshu Jamshenpa of Arunachal Pradesh scaled the Mount Everest on 18 May 2013 for the third time. She holds the record of being the only mother in the world to scale the peak twice in 10 days. She was among the six mountaineers from the north-east to make it to the summit.
Among the six were David Zohmangaiha of Mizoram, Tarun Saikia of Assam and Wangsuk Myrthong of Meghalaya, who became the first mountaineers from their States to have successfully scaled the Mount Everest.
Other members of the team were Kazi Sherpa of Sikkim and Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba of Manipur. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced a financial assistance of 20 lakh rupees to Saikia for his achievement.
