Arun Singh named as India's Ambassador to US

Singh has been joint secretary in-charge of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan division in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). He has also served as deputy chief of mission in Washington for nearly five years.

Arun Singh, a 1979-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer on 1 March 2015 was named as India’s Ambassador to the US. At the time of nomination, Singh was serving as India’s Ambassador of France.

Union Government has also sent an agreement to the US government naming Singh as its next Ambassador to the country and is awaiting a response from the Obama administration.

Singh will succeed S Jaishankar who was appointed as the foreign secretary of India on 28 January 2015.


Earlier, Singh has served as ambassador to Israel and was deputy chief of mission in Washington for five years before going to Paris. He has been joint secretary in-charge to Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan division in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
