Arunachal Pradesh District Planning Committee (Amendment) Bill, 2014 passed in Assembly

Arunachal Pradesh Assembly has passed the Arunachal Pradesh District Planning Committee (Amendment) Bill, 2014.

The state assembly of Arunachal Pradesh on 31 July 2014 passed the Arunachal Pradesh District Planning Committee (Amendment) Bill, 2014. This Bill has paved a way for panchayats and municipalities to participate in planning process in the districts. The bill will become an Act after the approval of the Governor.

Town Planning and Urban Local Bodies Minister, Pema Khandu introduced the Bill in the House on 25 July 2014. It was passed through voice vote.

The Bill aims at constituting the district planning committee and consolidating the plan prepared by panchayats and municipalities in the districts. The Bill aims at preparing a five-year prospective plan and draft development plan for the districts. The bill also has a proposal to make zila parishads chairperson the chairperson of district planning

This Amendment will ensure integrating and effective development of urban and rural areas by involving people in the process of development at grass root level through democratic system.

Apart from this, Arunachal Assembly also saw introduction of other two Bills on 25 July 2014 on the inaugural day of the eight-day budget session. The other two bills were
Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Bill 2004 – introduced by Home Minister Tanga Byaling and would help in effective prevention of certain unlawful activities like bandh calls and strikes by individuals and associations in the state
Arunachal Pradesh State Housing Board Bill 2014 – introduced by Town Planning and Urban Local Bodies Minister Prema Khandu
