Assam decided to implement National Food Security Act from 1 September 2014

Assam Government has decided to implement National Food Security Act from 1 July 2014. Onions and potatoes will be in the list of essential commodities.

National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be implemented by the Assam Government from 1 September 2014. The decision to implement the Act in the state was taken on 14 July 2014 at a meeting of senior officials of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department convened by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in Guwahati.

During the meet, the state government also decided to bring onions and potatoes in the list of essential commodities to curb hoarding.


The Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of the Assam Government will be the nodal department for implementing NFSA.

The Chief Minister has also asked the officials to make adequate arrangements of the prescribed stock limit of essential commodities in Amar Dukans and keep a check on it, so that no anti-social element could indulge in hoarding of necessary articles leading to black-marketing.
