Assembly Election 2016: Jayalalitha, Mamta retain power; BJP in Assam and Kerala goes Left

The counting of State Assembly Elections 2016 in four states Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and Union Territory Puducherry started in early morning today on 19 May 2016.

Tamil Nadu & West Bengal

The early trends suggest that women power continues to holds sway in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal with Jayalaitha-led AIADMK party leading in 136 out of 234 assembly seats, while Mamta Banerjee-led TMC leading in 219 out of 294 total assembly seats.

In West Bengal the voting were casted in six phases

Puducherry

The grand old party of India, Congress party seems to have lost its hold over the entire country and the assembly elections 2016 may prove to be the last nail in the coffin of Congress demise. It only has to console with Puducherry as early trends suggest it leading on 11 seats out of total 30 assembly seats. However, here also it will be only able to form the government in alliance with DMK.

Major takeaways:

• BJP has emerged as one of the player in states where it drew zero earlier. It has made noteworthy inroads in West Bengal with it leading on 10 seats.

• In Tamil Nadu history is in making with Jayalalithaa beating anti-incumbency factor is all set to become the first leader in the state to be chief minister for two consecutive times since 1989.

• At present BJP rules in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Puducherry,
