In July 2010, district administration of Barmer banned the use of Pakistan SIM cards. The decision was taken in the wake of Pakistan installing new mobile phone towers along the border area of Barmer despite India objecting to it. The decision was taken after the meeting of the Internal Security Committee. Pakistani mobile phone network had a network penetration of 30-40 km inside Indian Territory.
The network penetration could be a threat to Indian security as it could be used for anti Indian activities.
