BHEL commissioned 600 MW Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant Stage-II in Telangana

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) on 5 January 2016 commissioned the 600 MW Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant Stage-II at Bhoopalapally in Warangal district of Telangana. The plant was dedicated by the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

It is the first major plant to be commissioned after the formation of the state in June 2014.

This new plant is in addition to the 500 MW thermal plant commissioned by the BHEL in 2010 at Bhoopalaplly.

With this commissioning, total installed capacity of TS Genco went up to 5045.26 MW. It includes 2882.50 MW of thermal power, 2161.76 MW of hydel power and 1 MW of solar power.

By 2018-19 the State is in the process of adding about 13960 MW of power generation capacity. The projects include,

• 4000 MW thermal plant of NTPC
• 4000 MW Yadadri thermal plant of TS Genco
• 1800 MW of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd.
