The Broadcasting Content Complaint Council (BCCC) on 28 December 2012 asked all the entertainment channels not to televise abusive, crass, vulgar as well as double-meaning language that has sexual overtones in comedy’s name.
The BCCC issued an advisory in which it mentioned that channels need not cross their limits in the name of comedy. The council also declared that a lot of complaints were received by it against dialogues which had double-meaning sense of humour.
The regulatory body announced that it was concerned over such a trend. BCCC also announced that there were times when comedy shows crossed the boundaries of generally acceptable standards in context with language. In the advisory it was mentioned that content of such jokes was indecent and demeaning.
Additionally, the BCCC suggested that these channels should keep in mind certain things while scheduling the comedy shows. This would help in creating less impact on Indian viewers. The council also advised that channels should make use of friendly joking without hurting any individual, religion or comedy.
