The Union Cabinet made some major space decisions on September 18. The cabinet approved the expansion of the Chandrayaan mission, thus approving the fourth mission of the same. Chandrayaan 3 recently achieved a successful landing of a lander and rover on the Moon.
The Cabinet also gave its nod for other missions including sending an orbiter to Venus, the next phase of the Gaganyaan missions, the development of an Indian space station, and development of new generation of launch vehicles. These announcements were made by Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a press conference.
What is Chandrayaan-4 Mission?
The goal of the Chandrayaan-4 lunar mission is to develop technology that will enable a successful landing on the moon and a safe return to Earth. Furthermore, the mission is also supposed to gather lunar samples for examination on Earth.
The development and launch of Chandrayaan-4 mission is under Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The expected time in which this mission is to be finished is 36 months.
Chandrayaan-4 Mission: Expected Cost
Modi government has allocated a total budget of ₹2,104.06 crore for Chandrayaan-4 mission. This budget covers tests, deep space network support, two LVM3 launches, and spacecraft development.
The mission will make India self-reliant in technologies for manned space missions and lunar sample studies. With strong support from Indian industries and academic institutions, this mission will put India among the powerful nations capable of advanced space exploration and manned lunar missions.
India’s Exploration on Venus
India's mission on Venus aims to explore Venus's atmosphere and geology in detail. The Venus Orbiter Mission (VOM) is supposed to gather valuable scientific data by studying the planet's dense atmosphere to improve our understanding of it.

ISRO’s Budget for Venus Exploration
Scientists believe Venus may have once been similar to Earth, making it an important target for study. The Venus mission is to launch in the month of March 2028. ISRO will be managing the spacecraft's development and launch.
The total budget for the mission is ₹1,236 crore, of which ₹824 crore is allocated for the spacecraft itself.
These approvals by the central government highlight its commitment to boosting India's space exploration abilities. If successful, these missions will place India at a key position in global space programs and exploration.
