Chinese authority on 19 August 2014 arrested thousand members of banned Quannengshen or the Church of Almighty God religious cult. China had outlawed Quannengshen as illegal cult.

Further China had sentenced dozens of followers of Quannengshen movement since the murder of a woman at a fast food restaurant by suspected members of the group in June 2014 which sparked a national outcry.

Earlier In 2012, China had launched a crackdown on the group after it called for a decisive battle to slay the Red Dragon Communist Party.

About the group

The Quannengshen group originated in Central Henan province of China. They believed that Jesus was resurrected as Yang Xiangbin, wife of the sect's founder, Zhao Weishan. Zhao is also known as Xu Wenshan.

Falun Gong Religious Group

Earlier, in 1999 Former President Jiang Zemin launched a campaign to crush the Falun Gong religious group.

Government reaction

The Government of China has cracked down on cults, which have multiplied across the country in recent years. Demonstrations have been put down with force and some sect leaders executed. The party brooks no challenge to its rule and is obsessed with social stability.
