Group of armed Maoists trapped and attacked the Congress party convoy at Dharba Valley in Chhattisgarh on 25 May 2013. In the attack, 17 people were killed on the spot as well as around 20 injured. Among the injured was former central Minister and senior Congress leader V.C. Shukla.
The Maoists triggered the blasts with heavy Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the road as well as opened fire in dense forested area of Darbha, which is situated around 40 km away from Jagdalpur district. There were approximately 100 Maoists that opened fire on the Congress convoy. The Maoists abducted Chhattisgarh Congress president Nand Kumar Patel along with his son.
During the firing, Mahendra Karma, the Senior Congress leader and former leader of opposition as well as the former legislator Uday Mudaliar were killed.
