Cyclone Asani, the first cyclone of the year 2022 is likely to hit the Andaman Nicobar Islands on March 21, 2022. After hitting Andaman Nicobar, Cyclone Asani will move towards Myanmar and Bangladesh. As per the Weather Department, a low-pressure area in the Southeast region of the Bay of Bengal is most likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by March 21.
The India Meteorological Department said that the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) which formed on March 15, was expected to move east-northeastwards and become a well-marked low-pressure area by March 19.
Cyclone Asani: Sea condition to become rough, weather office issues advisory
According to the weather office, sea conditions are likely to become rough over the Southeast Bay of Bengal as well as the South Andaman Sea on March 17 and 18.
Fishermen have been advised by the weather office not to venture into the central parts of the Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean. They have also been warned for Southeast Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea area on March 17 and March 18, 2022.
The weather office has advised the fishermen not to venture into the Andaman Sea and along and off the islands between March 20 and March 22.
Cyclone Asani: Impact on Andaman Nicobar Islands
Andaman Nicobar Islands are expected to experience stormy winds on March 20, 2022. They are further likely to intensify to gale winds with speeds reaching 70-80 km per hour, gusting to 90 kmph the very next day.
Cyclone Asani to reach near Bangladesh and Myanmar by March 23
The cyclone will subsequently move along and off Andaman & Nicobar Islands before it intensifies into a depression. The weather system will intensify into a cyclonic storm on March 21. It will then continue to move north-northwestwards till March 22.
Once the weather system will intensify into cyclones, it will be named Asani, a name suggested by Sri Lanka.
As per the weather office, thereafter, Cyclone Asani will move north-northwestwards and reach near Bangladesh and the adjoining coast of Myanmar by the morning of March 23.
