India Current Affairs 2011. Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL)  offered two sites to NPCIL for setting up a second nuclear power plant

The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) on 22 June 2011 offered two sites to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for setting up a second nuclear power plant in the State. HPGCL and NPCIL officers will visit these sites in Balsamand area of Hisar district and the Kitlana-Nimiriwali-Ajitpur area of Bhiwani district on 23 and 24 June 2011 to further access the suitability of the place for setting up the second power plant.

The NPCIL team will during the visit collect certain details regarding the availability of water, cropping patterns, power evacuation arrangements and the distance from the nearest railway head in order to proceed further. HPGCL had carried out a preliminary survey of these sites in December 2010 and found them to be suitable.

The land owners of Balsamand village, through their Panchayat, had submitted a memorandum to the Haryana Chief Minister in April 2011 expressing their willingness to sell around 18000 acres of land for setting up a power project to ensure development of the village and surrounding areas.
The first nuclear plant of the state at Gorakhpur in Fatehabad district is currently under construction.
