India hockey player Arjun Halappa was in April 2011 named captain of the Indian Hockey team the upcoming Sultan Azlan Shah Cup scheduled to be played at Ipoh, Malaysia from 5-15 May 2011. The 30-year-old Air-India midfielder succeeded Rajpal Singh as the captain of the Indian Hockey team. The selection trials on 4 and 5 April 2011 was held to shortlist the probables for the championship.
India won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup five times in the past and was declared joint winners with South Korea in 2010 when the final was abandoned due to rain. In 2011 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup India will play their first match against South Korea on the opening day.
