HRD ministry set up a three-member probe panel to look into the issue of IIT scam involving fake institute, Institute of Electrical Engineers (I).

The Indian Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry in December 2010 set up a three-member probe panel to look into the issue of IIT scam involving fake institute, Institute of Electrical Engineers (I)  which was run by faculty members of IIT-Kharagpur. The committee will consist of Pradip Mathur, director of IIT-Indore and S K Jain, director of IIT-Gandhinagar.  Surendra Prasad, director of IIT-Delhi is expected to be the third member of the panel. The panel will have to verify the allegations labelled. In case the allegations are found to be true, the panel has been asked to find out the complicity of others.

The Central Vigilance Commission had in late November 2010 ordered an investigation into the matter. The CVC had given the ministry four week time to complete the probe into the IIT scam. The ministry had first planned to set up a three-member committee, comprising IIT directors. It however changed its mind and decided that a senior HRD official would carry out the investigation. It, finally decided to let IIT directors investigate the fake institute allegation.
