India and Pakistan on 21 February 2012 agreed to extend the agreement to reduce the risk from accidents related to nuclear weapons for another five years (till 21 February 2017), in accordance with Article 8 of the agreement between the two countries. The agreement had come into force on 21 February 2007 for an initial duration of five years.
The agreement on extension was finalised during the sixth round of bilateral talks on nuclear confidence building measures held in Islamabad on 27 December, 2011.
