"Earlier today, one delegation misused this forum to propagate false and misleading narratives, which is not surprising. To save the valuable time of this august body, I will not dignify these remarks with a response," said Pratik Mathur, Minister at India's Permanent Mission to the UN. Check how India slammed Pakistan at UNGA.

India has strongly criticized Pakistan for its unfounded and deceptive narratives following mentions of Kashmir by Islamabad's envoy, Munir Akram, during his speech at the UN General Assembly.

Presenting India's stance during the UN General Assembly debate on the UN Security Council Annual Report, Pratik Mathur, Minister at India's Permanent Mission to the UN, accused Pakistan of "misusing" the UN platform to disseminate misleading narratives.

India Condemns "Baseless Narratives" at UN

During a debate on the annual report, Pratik Mathur, representing India at the UN, criticized a delegation for using the platform to disseminate false and misleading information, without explicitly mentioning Pakistan.

"Earlier today, one delegation misused this forum to propagate false and misleading narratives, which is not surprising. To save the valuable time of this august body, I will not dignify these remarks with a response," Mathur stated.

The Indian envoy's remarks were a direct response to those made by Munir Akram, Pakistan's ambassador to the UN, who had raised the issue of Kashmir during his UNGA statement. Despite the agenda items for various meetings, Pakistan frequently brings up the subject of Jammu and Kashmir at numerous UN platforms and other international forums.

India Reaffirms Kashmir Stance

India has consistently dismissed Pakistan's efforts to bring up the Kashmir issue on the international stage. India asserts that the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are "integral parts of India" and that Pakistan has no "locus standi" to comment on India's internal affairs.

During the UNGA debate, Pratik Mathur emphasized the need for comprehensive Security Council reform, including the expansion of both permanent and non-permanent members. He praised the newly elected members for the 2025–2026 term, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the debate on the Security Council report, and stated that India looks forward to collaborating positively and constructively with them.

Over the years, Pakistan has sought to internationalize the Jammu and Kashmir issue at various forums, including the UN. India has consistently criticized Pakistan for harboring terrorists within its borders.

India Criticizes UN

Mathur highlighted the UN Charter's emphasis on the Security Council's annual report, mandated by a specific clause. However, he criticized the annual report discussion as having lost its substantive value, reduced to a repetitive exercise featuring meeting minutes, briefings, and outcomes. He pointed out that the production of only six monthly reports the previous year signaled a lack of member engagement in this procedural formality.

He also noted that generating only six monthly reports last year showed members weren't very interested in this usual practice. The Indian ambassador further emphasized that the annual report should delve into a comprehensive examination of UN peacekeeping operations, which serve as the cornerstone for global peace and security. However, he noted a notable lack of clarity regarding the methodologies employed in peacekeeping, the challenges faced, and the reasoning behind decisions to establish, modify, enforce, reduce, or terminate specific mandates.

India’s Stance on Expansion of Security Council

Mathur stressed the importance of closer cooperation between the Security Council and Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs), as non-Council members contribute most peacekeepers, risking their lives for global peace.

He argued that a thorough reform of the Security Council, expanding both permanent and non-permanent memberships, is necessary. Mathur emphasized that this reform is crucial for effectively managing today's global crises and complex challenges.
