India and Israel signed an agreement on Cooperation in Public and Homeland security on 27 February 2014.
Besides this, two other agreements were signed. These are:
• Agreement on cooperation in legal assistance in criminal matters.
• Agreement on protection of classified material.
These agreements were signed by Additional Secretary (Home Ministry) Rajiv Sharma and Israeli Ambassador Alon Ushpiz.
Both the countries are facing wrath of terrorism and terrorism is a global threat. To eliminate terrorism, such agreements are necessary for both the countries. Such agreements also strengthen bilateral relations.
Earlier, India and Israel had signed the Extradition Treaty and Agreement for the transfer of sentenced persons in 2012.
