The grouping leaders of G20 announced on November 22, 2020 that India will now host the Group of 20 Summit in 2023, a year later than what was decided earlier. India was set to host the summit in 2022 which was also coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Indian independence.
The declaration of G20 Riyadh Summit Leaders which was issued at the conclusion of two-day’s conference of the top 20 economies of the world thanked Saudi Arabia for successfully hosting Riyadh Summit as well as for its contribution to G20 process. The declaration by the leaders added that we look forward for our next meetings in Italy in 2021, Indonesia in 2022, India in 2023 and Brazil in 2024.
PM Modi among other two dozen leaders had participated in one of the most prominent summits. The focus of 2020s summit, which mostly took place virtually was the Coronavirus pandemic.
India hosting summit in 2023 instead of 2022:
On now India hosting the summit in 2023 instead of 2023, sources informed that the order of rotating the presidency has been decided among the member of states on the basis of mutual convenience and consultations.
It was also informed that India looks forward in taking forward the G20 agenda in 2023 after the presidencies of Italy and Indonesia.
G20 leaders committed to address COVID-19 pandemic:
The leaders of G20 in the declaration, vowed on addressing the vulnerabilities that have been revealed by the ongoing crisis and assured to take the necessary steps to work and recover stronger to ensure that future generations are much safer than we have been.
The leaders also informed that they have been taking exceptional and immediate measures for addressing the pandemic and its intertwined social, health and economic impacts.
The declaration further continued that the leaders meeting for the second time under Saudi Presidency stand united in conviction that solidarity, coordinated global action, and multilateral cooperation are more necessary in today’s time than ever to overcome the ongoing challenges.
The leaders also reflected their commitment in leading the world in shaping sustainable, strong, balanced and inclusive post-COVID-19 era.
G20 leaders support Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF):
The leaders of G20 also extended support to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing policy responses detailed in the paper of Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) on COVID-19 pandemic.
The leaders also reaffirmed support to FATF, as a global standard-setting body for combating and preventing money laundering, proliferation financing and terrorist financing.
