The Armed Forces Medical Services- AFMS has decided to import the oxygen generation plants and containers from Germany to provide for the ongoing shortage of oxygen in the hospitals during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
The Union Defence Ministry informed on April 23, 2021, that 23 mobile oxygen generation plants are being airlifted from Germany.
These will be deployed in the Armed Forces Medical Services hospitals catering to the patients of Coronavirus. The Oxygen generating plants are expected within a week, stated Defence Ministry.

Defence Minister reviews COVID-19 situation:
The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also chaired a meeting. He reviewed the Defence Ministry’s preparations and response to the Coronavirus situation in the country.
Reportedly, Rajnath Singh took the review of progress in Coronavirus hospitals on April 20, 2021, where he asked the officials for analyzing and to let him know what more is required and that there will be procurement immediately.
India records highest number of COVID-19 cases:
The decision of importing oxygen generating plants has come as the country recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the past few days.
In the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 3,32,730 cases which is the highest spike in a single day since the Coronavirus pandemic broke in 2020. India has also crossed the mark of 3 lakh cases for 2 consecutive days now.
