Delhi’s first green stadium, Thyagraja Stadium won the Indian Building Congress award. The award was presented by Union Minister of Urban Development Jaipal Reddy and was received by Delhi Labour Minister Mangat Ram Singhal on 17 June 2010. The Thyagraja Stadium, apart from producing its own power, also produces solar power that will provide electricity to over 1000 households. There are several environment-friendly features which have been included like an effluent treatment plant whose treated water would be used to irrigate lawns. Fly ash bricks were used to build the structure and to reduce heat loss and a cavity has been kept between the walls. Water taps were fitted with photo-sensors for minimum wastage and rainwater harvesting will be used for flushing.
