On 07 June 2010 India’s EKA the fastest Supercomputer in India slipped to 33rd ranking in the world according to the latest data released by Top500 at the International Supercomputer Conference in Hamburg, Germany. USA’s Jaguar built by the Cray Company was adjudged best by Top 500.China’s Nebule got 2nd ranking. The peak speed of India’s Supercomputer EKA is 0.172petaflops per second while Nebula’s peak speed is 2.98 petaflops per second, which is twice the speed of Indian Supercomputer.
India’s second fastest Supercomputer got 94th ranking. It is located at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in Pune.
• EKA is developed by Computational Research Laboratories owned by Tata group.
• According to previous data EKA was ranked 9th according to the data released in 2008.
• The Indian Supercomputer PARAM Yuva cluster slipped to 183rd ranking from its previous rank of 109.
• PARAM was India’s first Supercomputer to be included in the list of top500
in 24-27 June 2003 at Heidelberg, Germany.
• USA has 282 Supercomputers on the list given by top 500 that is largest number in the world. England has 38 while Germany and China both have 24 Supercomputers on the list.
• India has only 5 Supercomputers on the list of Top 500.
• Top 500, a foundation found in 1993 maintains a list of fastest 500 Supercomputers worldwide.
• Jaguar Supercomputer is based in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennesse, United States.
