Two senior Indian-American journalists were among seven media personalities honoured in the New Jersey General Assembly by Speaker Sheila Y Oliver on 10 May 2011. Suman Guha Mozumdar, associate managing editor of India-Abroad Rediff and Prakash M Swamy,senior Indian-American journalist were recognised for their inestimable contributions in the field of media.
Mozumder as a journalist began his career in 1985 with the Business India magazine and continued his journalistic pursuit to hold his present position. He has an all-round experience in different spheres and excelled in his chosen field. Among the news organizations Mozumder associated himself with were UNI and IANS.
Swamy is a renowned international journalist and editor and has gone on to win an array of awards. He won professional excellence award of Rotary International that also named him as Rotary International's goodwill ambassador and the Lion's International's investigative reporting award.
The scribes were honoured on the occasion of Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrations.
Others honored were: Lito A. Gajilan, publisher of The Filipino Express; Lili Greene, chief correspondent of IEPN TV; Byoungsoo Sohn, Abhishek Sharma (both journalists) and Indian-American publisher Sudhir Parikh.
