18 May-International Museum Day
International Museum Day was celebrated across the world on 18 May 2014. This is the 37th International Museum Day.
The theme of International Museum Day 2014 is Museum collections make connections. The theme for the year 2014 aims to rejuvenate the traditional methods which museums use to involve their communities and keep up with their public.
On this day, events and activities were organised in thousands of museums all over the world to celebrate IMD 2014 for the museum community. The day aims to increase public awareness about the role of museums in the development of society.
About International Museum Day
• International Museum Day is organised by International Council of Museums (ICOM) across the world every year on 18 May. The first international Museum day was celebrated in 1977.
• ICOM encourages the participation of museums of all kinds, bringing them together each year around a common International Museum Day theme.
• Around 35000 museums from 100 countries on five continents participate in International Museum Day 2013.
