IPL Spot-Fixing Case: Sreesanth, Ankeet and 17 others Granted Bail by Delhi Court

Sreesanth, Ankeet and 17 others accused in IPL Spot-Fixing case were granted bail by a Delhi Court. The Court asked all accused to surrender their passports.

S Sreesanth and Ankeet ChavanThe Delhi Court has granted bail to cricketer S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan along with 17 others accused in the IPL Spot-Fixing case on 10 June 2013. The 17 other accused includes 14 bookies who were granted bail by the Delhi Court.

The Court in its judgment stated that the accused were supposed to surrender their passports and cannot travel abroad but were free to travel within the country. The Court also observed that the police failed to produce enough evidences to justify charging the accused cricketers and others under the stringent Act MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act).MCOCA is invoked against people associated with organised crime syndicates (a connection that needs to be proved to invoke MCOCA).
