Japan on 22 April 2011 decided to cut its Official Development Assistance (ODA) during the financial year 2011-12. Japan took this decision as one of the measures for the reconstruction of areas destroyed by tsunami and earthquake.

Significantly, India is among the largest recipients of the Japanese ODA. Japan’s economic assistance to India in the fiscal year of 2008 was 236 billion Yen over 4 billion Yen as grants and almost 12 billion Yen as technical cooperation.
