Omar Abdullah's National Conference (NC) party won the first Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since the repeal of Article 370. He has taken oath as the first chief minister of the region after it became a Union Territory.
Omar Abdullah was sworn in by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. several important opposition leaders were present at the event including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, INC party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.
Where is Omar Abdullah’s Oath Ceremony?
According to PTI News, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, along with a few ministers. The ceremony was held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC).
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administered the swearing-in ceremony of Omar Abdullah and his ministers at 11:30 am.
Who is Invited to the Oath Ceremony?
The NC has invited leaders of the INDIA alliance to the event today.
Prominent members of the INDIA group, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, have received invitations to the swearing-in ceremony. Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Lalu Prasad Yadav of the RJD, M K Stalin of the DMK, and NCP President Sharad Pawar are also anticipated to be there. Other notable invitees include Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, AAP's Arvind Kejriwal, and PDP's Mehbooba Mufti.
But according to Nasir Aslam Wani, provincial president of the National Conference (NC) in Kashmir, it's unclear who will be present at the event.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has invited Omar Abdullah to take the oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The President's rule in the state was lifted on Sunday, according to an official press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
