The Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy commissioned a biogas plant in the Government Secretariat campus in Thiruvananthapuram on 23 March 2013. The biogas plant was installed by Bio Flame-Biogas and Energy Pvt Ltd.

Features of the biogas plant commissioned by Oommen Chandy

• This biogas plant has the capacity of processing up to 100 kg of biowaste per hour.
• It can also produce 8-10 kg of fuel. This fuel would be utilised for cooking purpose.
• The waste which came from in-house canteen would be processed by the plant mainly.
• The plant is a result of rising concerns of waste disposal in this Capital City.

Apart from the biogas plant, incinerator was also scheduled to come up in the campus. The site for establishing this 18 lakh Rupees project was identified near this biogas plant. The work would finish by April 2013. This incinerator is like the one which is already functioning at Shanthi Kavadam.
