In a significant move, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet approved a plan on Tuesday to raise the current 33% reservation for women in state government jobs to 35%. This decision was taken during a cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Following the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla informed media that the cabinet had approved a plan to increase the percentage of women in state government positions from 33% to 35%.
Quota Increase for Women's Hiring
According to Shukla, the decision will be applied to all hiring conducted by the Employees Selection Board and the state Public Service Commission.
Officials stated that to increase the quota, the cabinet approved the chief minister’s decision and the notification issued on September 13, 2023, under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provisions for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997.
Age Limit Also Increased
The government also agreed to raise the age limit for hiring assistant professors at medical schools from 40 to 50 years old, according to the deputy chief minister.
New Fertilizer Sales Centers
The establishment of 254 additional fertilizer sales centers in 2024–2025 (during the rabi and kharif seasons) was one of the other plans that were approved during the meeting, he said.
New Thermal Power Plant in MP
The cabinet approved the setup of a new 660 MW thermal power plant. This plant will replace older units totaling 830 MW, including two 205 MW units and two 210 MW units that have been decommissioned.
