SRO's Mars Orbiter Mission completes 3 years in orbit
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on 25 September 2017 announced that its Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), known as Mangalyaan mission, has completed three years in its Martian orbit and it continues to work as expected.
On the occasion of completion of three years in Martian orbit, ISRO released the MOM second year science data.
The MOM spacecraft was launched by ISRO on PSLV rocket from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on 5 November 2013. The main aim of this mission is to study the Martian surface and mineral composition as well as scan its atmosphere for methane which is an indicator of life on Mars.
INS TARASA to be commissioned into Indian Navy today in Mumbai
INS 'TARASA' will be commissioned into the Indian Navy on 26 September 2017 at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. INS Tarasa (T94) is a patrol vessel of the Car Nicobar-class of Indian Navy and the last ship in the series of four Water Jet Fast Attack Craft.
The ship is an improved variant of the Car Nicobar-class high-speed offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). With a 315 tonne displacement, the ship is designed for a maximum speed of 35 knots with an endurance of nearly 2000 nautical miles.
Powered by the latest 4000 series MTU engines with advanced machinery control system, INS Tarasa is fitted with CRN-91 indigenous 30mm gun with optronic pedestal.
PV Sindhu recommended for Padma Bhushan by Sports Ministry
Olympic silver medallist shuttler P V Sindhu was on 25 September 2017 recommended for India's third highest civilian award Padma Bhushan by the Sports Ministry for her contribution to the game.
Sindhu clinched 2016 China Open Super Series Premier, India Open Super Series, historic silver medal at the Glasgow World Championship and bagged her third Super Series title at Korea Open that was held in September 2017.
In March 2015, Sindhu was awarded with Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour.
