Center to organise Paryatan Parv across the country to promote tourism

The Union Ministry of Tourism would be organising Paryatan Parv, a festival of tourism, from 5 October 2017 in collaboration with other central ministries, state governments and stakeholders.

The main objective behind organising the festival is to draw focus on the benefits of tourism and showcase the cultural diversity of the country and to reinforce the principle of ‘Tourism for All’.

The festival would be beginning at Humayun's Tomb in Delhi. It will end on 25 October.

ICMR Chief Soumya Swaminathan Appointed WHO Deputy Director General

Dr Soumya Swaminathan, Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) was appointed Deputy Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO), in Geneva.

This position is the second-highest at the UN’s health agency. The position is also the highest post held by any Indian in WHO. This new leadership team in WHO was announced by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general, who was elected to the post in May 2017.

Swaminathan is a paediatrician and an internationally-recognised researcher on TB (Tuberculosis) and HIV, who has over 30-years of experience in clinical care and research.

Sports Minister announces launch of National School and College Games to tap talent

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore has announced the launch of National School and College Games to tap talent from each corner of the country.

Explaining the decision, Rathore said that the youth of this country will have to be provided platforms to show their talent. The minister said the government has decided to start for the first time the Khelo India National School Games in December 2017 and Khelo India National College Games in January 2018.

He added that from these Games, 1000 children will be selected and be given 5 lakh rupees for eight years for their training.
