Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and MSME, Nitin Gadkari is set to launch a new innovative wall paint developed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission today at his residence.
The eco-friendly, non-toxic wall paint, which is called “Khadi Prakritik Paint” is a first-of-its-kind product. It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
With cow dung as its main ingredient, the paint is cost-effective and odorless and has received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards
Key Highlights
• The Khadi Prakritik Paint is free from heavy metals like mercury, lead, arsenic, chromium, cadmium and others.
• It will be made available in two forms- plastic emulsion paint and distemper paint.
• The production of the paint will help boost local manufacturing and create sustainable local employment opportunities through technology transfer.
• The technology will increase the consumption of cow dung as a raw material for eco-friendly products and will generate additional revenue for farmers and gaushalas.
• The Khadi Prakritik Distemper and Emulsion Paints have been tested at three reputed National Laboratories.

The wall paint production is estimated to generate an additional income of approximately Rs 30,000 per annum per animal for the farmers and gaushalas. Further, the use of cow dung in the paint will help make the environment cleaner and prevent clogging of drains. |
Significance
The production of the eco-friendly wall paint is aligned with PM Narendra Modi's vision of increasing farmers’ income.
Background
The Khadi Prakritik paint project was conceptualized by KVIC Chairman in March 2020. It was later developed by a KVIC unit in Jaipur- the Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute.
