On July 16, 2024, the Narendra Modi-led NDA government reorganized the NITI Aayog. It now has four full-time members and 15 Union Ministers, including some from BJP allies, as either ex-officio members or special invitees.

According to the official notice, economist Suman K. Bery will continue to serve as vice-chairwoman of NITI Aayog, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will remain the Aayog's chairperson.

A Rashtrapati Bhawan statement stated, "In continuation of Cabinet Secretariat notification... the Prime Minister has approved the revised composition of NITI Aayog."

Niti Aayog: Ex-officio Members

The BJP-led NDA government has added a new name to the list of ex-officio members of Niti Aayog. The new ex officio member is Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Meanwhile, Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Anurag Thakur, who joined the commission last year, did not retain their positions this year.

The National Institution for Transforming India, or 'NITI Aayog,' was established in 2015 after the Modi government decided to replace the 65-year-old Planning Commission.
