A consortium comprising ONGC Mittal Energy Ltd (OMEL), German company Wintershall, and Denmark's Maersk Oil surrendered their offshore exploration block in the Caspian Sea in Turkmenistan. OMEL had acquired 30 per cent stake in offshore exploration block in Turkmenistan and invested about $28 million. The consortium however decided against going ahead with further exploration as the prospects were not found to be very attractive. OMEL has three other such blocks -in Syria and two highly prospective blocks in Nigerian deepwater- OPL 279 and OPL 285.
