PEMRA suspended three Geo TV Channels for leveling allegations against ISI

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on 20 May 2014 suspended three television channels of Geo TV network. Geo TV network is the country's largest and most influential.

These were suspended for leveling allegations against the Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) and showing blasphemous morning show on its entertainment channel.

The three channels that have been suspended by the five-member Pakistani electronic media watchdog are Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Tez.

The committee that suspended the channels with immediate effect included Syed Ismail Shah, Israr Abbasi and Pervez Rathore. Other two members of the Committee did not participate.

As per the committee, the suspension will stay in effect until 28 May 2014. By then another session of the committee will be called in to make a final call in relation to cancellation of the licenses.
