Puducherry's Police Department established a Rape Crisis Intervention Centre
Puducherry Police established a Rape Crisis Intervention Centre (RCIC).
The Police Department of Puducherry on 9 September 2014 established a Rape Crisis Intervention Centre (RCIC) in the Union Territory. It is a one-stop centre to deal with any rape case relating to women or child.
The RCIC will be a one-stop help centre where trained psychologists, legal experts, women police officers and staffs of Women and Child and Social Welfare Departments will extend all assistance to the victims and will manage the cases.
The multidisciplinary team will go to the place of the victim and render all assistance when rape case reported. The centre will help the traumatised to avoid mental stress reporting at police station.
Besides, an awareness programme to sensitise police was formulated with the assistance of the Department of Woman and Child Welfare and courses in self-defences will be conducted at schools, colleges and University also on a regular basis.
