Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology –Delhi was in news on 28 December 2014 after a controversy erupted in media over his resignation.
Shevgaonkar resigned from the post of Director, IIT-Delhi on 22 December 2014 citing personal issues.
Prof. Shevgaonkar sent his resignation to the Chairman of IIT Board of Governors Vijay P Bhatkar which was forwarded to the Union Human Resource Development Ministry on 26 December 2014.
The resignation will have now to be approved by the President Pranab Mukherjee. Only the President, in his capacity as Visitor of the IIT, could accept the resignation.
Shevgaonkar became the Director of IIT-Delhi in 2011. He is still left with two years tenure.
Earlier, he was Deputy Director (Finance and External Affairs) of IIT Bombay from 2005 to 2008.
