As per the official data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on 9 March 2011 about 38.33 lakh mobile subscribers submitted their Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests by the end of February 2011 to different mobile service providers for porting their mobile number.
According to the TRAI reports, out of the total MNP requests around 3.20 lakh pertains to Haryana where MNP was implemented from 25 November. 2010. In rest of the country, maximum number of requests in MNP Zone-1 was received in Gujarat (3.65 lakh) followed by Rajasthan (3.14 lakh). While in South and East telecom circle circles (MNP Zone-2) maximum number of requests were received in Karnataka (3.18 lakh) followed by Tamil Nadu Service area(2.76 lakh).
Over 38 lakh (3.8 million) customers opted for mobile number portability (MNP) - which allows users to switch operators while retaining their numbers - till the end of February 2011. The service was implemented across the country 20 Jan 2011 while the pilot launch of the service took place in Haryana 25 November 2010.
TRAI observed that the primary reasons for rejection of port request from users include incorrect Unique Porting Code, Non-completion of 90 days, existing Contractual Obligations and Outstanding Dues.
