The Sports Authority of India and the All India Football Federation signed an agreement to develop the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as the football hub in India. According to the agreement, SAI will permit AIFF to use the stadium (including the main pitch) for a maximum period of 40 days in a year.
Besides, SAI will provide AIFF the outside practice ground of the stadium in addition to other necessary facilities. These facilities will be available to SAI for 50 days in a year for the smooth conduct of national and international football tournaments.
In exchange, AIFF will repair the turf on the main pitch of the Nehru Stadium. AIFF will hold the SAFF CUP in December, the Nehru Cup, domestic tournaments and international matches in the next one year. The agreement is valid for one year and can be extended further for two years on the basis of review and mutual understanding.
