The country's first comprehensive vascular screening programme (SAVE India) was launched by Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals on 7 August 2010 on the occasion of National Vascular Awareness Day. The campaign would cover stroke, aneurysm and vascular disease evaluation to prevent disability or death due to stroke, aneurysm rupture or leg ulcers or gangrene. The purpose of launching this campaign was to increase awareness regarding vascular diseases in the country. For the first time in India there was an initiative that aimed at widespread population based screening of vascular ailments throughout the nation to achieve early detection of the disease and also quick intervention to prevent the disastrous consequences of vascular diseases.
