Shekhar Agarwal on 7 July assumed charge as Secretary, Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence. He belongs to the 1977 batch of the Indian Administrative Service. 


 Agarwal, a gold medalist from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University has a vast experience of working in Home, Finance and Personnel Administration. He has in the past served in all core areas of the Governments both in the Centre as well as in the State. He worked as the Special Secretary working in the Ministry of Defence for the last three and half years before he assumed charge as Secretary, Department of Defence Production.


 The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) also approved the following appointments:

Madhusudan Ganapathi, 1975 batch IFS officer as Secretary (West) in the Headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs.


ACC also approved approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs of Sindhushree Khullar, 1975 batch IAS of the UP cadre as Secretary, Department of Sports, for a period of three months or till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post, whichever is earlier.
