By the end of December, Indian Railways is anticipated to unveil its super app, a one-stop shop for passenger services, according to railway officials.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) would be integrated with the smartphone application, which is being built by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), according to the statement.

Will this App Replace IRCTC App?

As per an article published in the Economic Times, "IRCTC will continue as the interface between CRIS and passengers buying train tickets. Integration between the planned super app and IRCTC is underway,"

One-Stop App for Rail Services

The app will provide various services, such as booking passenger and platform tickets and checking train status, according to an official. Currently, Indian Railways passengers use several official apps and websites for different services:

  • IRCTC Rail Connect: For booking, modifying, and canceling train tickets
  • IRCTC eCatering Food on Track: For ordering food to be delivered to train seats
  • Rail Madad: For submitting complaints and suggestions
  • UTS: For booking unreserved train tickets
  • National Train Enquiry System: For checking train status

Super App Will Increase Railway Earnings

IRCTC Rail Connect is the most downloaded app among commuters on trains, with over 100 million downloads. It is the sole site for booking reserved train tickets.

According to the official cited above, "IRCTC sees the super app as another avenue for earnings," The insider stated that the ticketing monopoly is improving its technology to provide better services.

Since the majority of reserved tickets are now booked online, IRCTC's monopoly status is further cemented by the fact that private sector travel booking firms also rely on it for train tickets.

IRCTC Profit and Revenue

IRCTC reported a net profit of Rs 1,111.26 crore from a total revenue of Rs 4,270.18 crore for the 2023-24 financial year. Ticket bookings made up 30.33% of the total revenue, with over 453 million tickets booked, as stated in the company's annual report.
