International Current Affairs August 2012. The Supreme Court of Pakistan on 27 August 2012 granted three-week time to the Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on 27 August 2012 granted three-week time to the Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf in the show-cause notice for contempt of court regarding the implementation of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

The Supreme Court, on 8 August 2012, issued a contempt notice to Prime Minister Ashraf for not implementing its order of writing a letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen a graft case against President Asif Ali Zardari.

A five-judge special bench of Apex Court comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed heard the case.

If the Prime Minister fails to implement the Supreme court’s order to write the letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen the graft case against President Asif Ali Zardari then he might also face the same fate like his predecessor Yusuf Raja Gilani. The apex court on 19 June 2012 had disqualified and ousted Yusuf Raza Gillani from holding the prime minister office in the contempt charge.
