Army marksman Sushil Ghaley won gold in the 50m rifle prone event at the 55th National Shooting Championship on 20 November 2011 in Pune. Ghaley outplayed Commonwealth Games champion Gagan Narang to win the gold medal.
Ghaley qualified for the finals with an impressive score of 596, and then logged 699.4 points in summit round to edge out Air India's Narang.
Narang is a two-time individual winner of the 50m rifle 3-position at the CWG (2006 Melbourne and 2010 Delhi). He got the silver with 696.8, while Navy shooter Rajput had won the prone bronze in 2006 CWG at Melbourne, was beaten to the fourth spot by Army's Shivaji More who came third.
Gagan Narang of Air India (696.8) and Shivaji More of Army (695.1) got the silver and bronze respectively.Narang fired a high 10.9 in the fourth and dipped to 9.8 just once in the sixth, settling for second place in the face of Ghaley's streak of 10-pluses. More got it right with 10.8 on the 10th and last shot but two poor shots earlier pulled him down to third slot.
