Tadvi won Silver Medal in 3000m race in Youth Olympics Games Qualification event

Kisan Tadvi on 22 May 2014 bagged Silver Medal in boys’ 3000 meter race in the 2014 Youth Olympics Games Qualification event for Asia region. This was the only medal won by India on the second and concluding day of the event. Youth Olympic Games Qualification event was held from 21 to 22 May 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Tadvi clocked 8 minutes 27.87 seconds to finish the race and settle down for silver behind Abdo Abdi Ibrahim of Bahrain, who clinched Gold by ending the race on 8minutes 26.39 seconds. The third position and bronze was won by Liu Hongliang of China, who completed the race in 8 minutes and 33.46 seconds.  

Earlier, India won four medals on the first day of the event on 21 May 2104. This included gold won by Ajay Kumar Saroj in 1500 meter race.

The qualifiers of the event will participate in the Youth Olympics Game 2014 that will be held from 16 to 28 August 2014 in Nanjing, China. The Nanjing 2014 will also be the second Summer Youth Olympics Games.

Youth Olympic Game (YOG)
The Youth Olympic Game is an international multi-sport event organised by International Olympic Committee. The games are held in two formats summer and winter in every four year and are participated by youth in the age group of 14 to 18.

• First summer version of the game was held in Singapore in August 2010 and the 2014 version is scheduled to be held in Nanjing, China in August 2014
• First winter version was held in Innsbruck, Austria in January 2012 and the 2016 version will be held in Lillehammer in from 12 February to 21 February 2016

The idea of such an event was given in 1998 by Johann Rosenzopf from Austria. The idea was approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) members in 2007 at the 119th IOC session in Guatemala City and hence the youth version of the Olympic Games was formed.
