Tamil Nadu emerged winners in the men’s category at the 62nd National Junior Basketball Championship (under-18) after they defeated Madhya Pradesh on 12 July 2011. While in the girl’s category Kerala defeated Tamil Nadu to win the gold.
The Kerala girls outclassed their Tamil Nadu counterparts in a packed Thyagraj Stadium. The Madya Pradesh boy’s team initially put up a resistance but eventually lost steam paving way for Tamil Nadu to win the gold.
Kerala girls put up an aggressive display for a comprehensive 83-67 victory. The boy's final, on the other hand, dished out an enthralling contest with Tamil Nadu excelling in the second half to seal a 77-64 win.
Although the boys from Tamil Nadu held on to their lead riding on Sivabalan’s 34-point performance, the Madhya Pradesh team was in the hunt till the final quarter.
