No need to stand up in movie halls to prove patriotism: SC

The Supreme Court of India has asked the Central government to consider amending the decree for regulating playing of the national anthem in the cinema halls.

The apex court stated that it may alter its order of 1 December 2016, by which it was made mandatory in the movie halls to play the anthem before the screening of a film. The Apex court also noted that "We don't have to wear patriotism on our sleeve", and that it cannot be believed that if a person does not stand up for the national anthem, then he is “less patriotic“.

India's Space mission to Moon 'Chandrayaan- II' in 2018: Dr Jitendra Singh

Dr Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (IC) for Atomic Energy and Space announced on 23 October 2017 that India’s second space mission to moon, ‘Chandrayaan-II’, will take place in 2018, most likely in the first quarter of the year.

The Minister said that India has emerged as the world's frontline nation in the field of Space Technology and this in itself is a glorious vindication of the dream seen by the founding fathers of India’s Space Programme, like Vikram Sarabhai and Satish Dhawan.

India's first mission to Moon, Chandrayaan-1, was launched successfully on 22 October 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

Nicaragua signs Paris Climate Agreement, leaving the US and Syria behind

Central American country Nicaragua on 23 October 2017 signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, leaving the United States and Syria as the only two countries holing out to sign this global climate pact.

According to Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega, the Paris Agreement is the only international mechanism that offers the conditions to face global warming and its effects. Previously, Nicaragua refused to sign the agreement on the grounds that it did not require to  combat global warming.

President Donald Trump on 1 June 2017 withdrew the United States from the landmark 2015 Paris agreement to fight climate change.

Cristiano Ronaldo wins the Best FIFA Men's Player Award

Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo won the Best FIFA Men's Player Award for the second year in London on 23 October 2017.

Argentina’s forward Lionel Messi and Brazil’s forward Neymar were runners up for the award. While Ronaldo got 43.16 per cent of the total votes, Lionel Messi and Neymar fetched 19.25 and 6.97 per cent votes respectively.

The winners of the four ‘The Best FIFA Awards’ are selected through voting by four groups comprising football fans, selected media representatives, the captains and head coaches of national teams.

Meghalaya Election department to feature in Limca Book of Records

The Election department of Meghalaya state has won an entry in the Limca Book of Records for forming a human logo with newly-enrolled young voters of Meghalaya on 1 July 2017.

A total of 2870 students from 113 schools, 3 colleges falling between the age group of 18-19 enrolled as new voters and formed a 75 feet by 120 feet size human logo that read

Mission Unite- You 'N' I (towards Enrolment).The logo formation was a part of a special drive that was launched to enrol young and left-out voters with a special focus on first-time electors.
