1. (a) Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
India observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31, 2018 to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated world's tallest ‘Statue of Unity’ to the nation at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat.
2. (b) Malala Yousafzai
Harvard University selected Nobel Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai for 2018 Gleitsman Award in recognition of her work promoting girls’ education. She will be presented with this award on December 6, 2018 at a ceremony.

As per the 2019 Report, India jumped 23 places on the Ease of Doing Business Index to 77th rank, up from 100th rank last year. This year, India’s Distance to Frontier score improved to 67.23 from 60.76 in the previous year.
4. (d) Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher on October 31, 2018 resigned as Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), citing international film and TV assignments. Anupam Kher took office as the Chairman of the prestigious organisation in October 2017. Prior to Kher, Gajendra Chauhan was the Chairman of FTII. Chauhan left office in March 2017.
5. (b) Train 18
India’s first made-in-India engineless train ‘Train 18’ hit the tracks for trials on October 29, 2018.
After successful trials, the train will be handed over to Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for further trials.

Netherlands will be the partner country for the 25th DST-CII Technology Summit 2019. I The Summit will be organised in 2019. The first CII Technology Summit was organised in 1995 with an aim to facilitate global technology collaborations.

Justice Debasish Kar Gupta was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Justice Gupta was functioning as the acting chief justice of the Calcutta high court after Chief Justice Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya retired in September.

The World Cities Day was observed across the world on October 31, 2018 to work together for planned and sustainable urban life in the wake of rapid growth of population and problems. The 2018 theme of the day was ‘Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities’.
